What do we Provide?

These services are provided with the ultimate goal of bringing the community together around African American youth and young adults in order to support their growth and engagement in leadership.

  • Offering individual and group counseling services for youth, including drug counseling services as well as individual and group counseling for caregivers

  • Therapists will use a wholistic perspective to understand the youths needs and to provide individualized care. Restorative principles will be utilized to assess for the potential for needing help in repairing relationships due to harm done.

  • Advocating for needed policy changes.

  • Supporting families in meeting their needs in order to increase productivity of youth and deter them from juvenile justice involvement.

  • You will receive services from a culturally competent provider. Someone who can understand your experiences as an African American.

What you can expect

  • Weekly 50-minute, 1-on-1 zoom sessions

  • A comprehensive wellness assessment

  • Personalized treatment plan, coping skills, and referrals to community resources to help you reach your goals

  • Case management services as part of counseling services

  • Helpful tools, tips, and tricks for navigating your unique obstacles

  • If you do not have insurance or you don’t have one of the included insurances, you will be considered self-pay.

    Self-Pay full price is $175 per session with a free 30 min. consultation. Prices vary based on income (Sliding fee scale available).

FAQs

What is Restorative Justice?

Restorative Justice is a set of practices and ideology that describe how to heal victims, provide opportunities for growth, and identify alternatives to incarceration and violence by repairing harm to individuals and their community. The Restorative principles are relationship, respect, responsibility, repair, and reintegration.

What is the School to Prison Pipeline?

The school to prison pipeline refers to the practices and policies that consistently push black youth out of schools and cause them to be incarcerated unjustly. These practices include; police in schools, school suspensions, and zero tolerance policies.

What is adultification?

The idea that Black youth should act older than they are, especially black girls. There is a bias against black youth and teens to act as if they “know better” than their white peers and to be more like little adults. This prejudice has led to racist and abusive attitudes toward black youth in many areas of life, including the juvenile justice system and police interactions. What is a treatment plan?

A treatment plan is a document that is created between the individual and their counselor. This document includes the goals, objectives, and techniques that the counselor will use to support client in meeting their goals and objectives. This is a working document and can change based on the needs of the individual.

What happens in the first session

The first session in therapy is used to get to know the client and their needs. An assessment of needs and symptoms is conducted during the first session in order to establish a diagnosis and a guideline of care. Following sessions look different than the first session. In the following sessions, clinician will have more of a flow and will be more applicable to current pressing issues in the client’s life.

What can counseling do?

Counseling can help a person manage mental health conditions and overcome many fears or anxieties. A person can get as much out of counseling as they put in. If you have a willingness to review your behaviors and thoughts, you will do well in counseling. Think of a counselor as your guide to finding peace within yourself.

How long are services?

Services are provided for a defined period of time, as identified by the individual and their counselor. Service times can be extended if goals have not been reached. We want to help you get to a point where you can live without counseling services!
